Founder Joe Amrheim founded Pierogi 2000 in 1998.  The gallery became a leader in showing and collecting artists in the Williamsburg area, defining the Williamsburg arts scene for a new generation.  The gallery is famous for its collection of over 800 artist works in vertical files, an important archive illustrating contemporary work by visual artists in New York.
