The Police Department works in the schools as part of the DARE program; offers the Police Explorers program from youth 14-21 who may interested in a career in law enforcement; and may accept youth volunteers as part of its Neighborhood Watch or Volunteer Citizens Patrol programs.

Youth in the Explorers programs learn about policing and receive training in handcuffing procedures, motor vehicle stops, and defensive tactics, plus access to the Police Cadet Academy.
