The Columbus Avenue street redesign makes what was unthinkable a year ago a reality: children safely biking on one of our busiest thoroughfares.  DOT will install 28 pedestrian refuge islands, up from four in its original proposal, making this a design that truly favors all forms of non-motorized transit over the vehicles that have dominated this corridor for years.  If you want to see what it was like to ride in this area before the street was redesigned, check out the same student's commute last year on flickr.
