Central Park
"Shared path" "Bike route" UWSSR
NYC Dept of Parks and Recreation
Key members of T.A. and the Upper West Side Streets Renaissance have worked hard behind the scenes to convince Central Park leadership and management of the need for safe crosspark cycling routes, rather than funneling cyclists to the dangerous auto transverses or ticketing them for using the pedestrian paths. Over the past year, several potential shared bike/pedestrian routes have been identified and are under final review by DOT. Legal crosstown bike routes will be a cause for celebration and huge sighs of relief for the thousands of cyclists who need to traverse Central Park every day, whether for errands, work, or recreation.
