Mission: The Regional YMCA is a community service organization dedicated to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities through the development of spirit, mind and body.
Many youth-development and educational programs and opportunities.
Teen Leaders program targets at-risk kids between the ages of 10 and 17 and provides them with life skills, homework assistance, and community service opportunities. During the school year, offers daily after-school club activities, including tutoring, discussions of teen issues, guest speakers, gym and pool.
Youth in Government program engages youth in mock legislature, writing a bill (making and repealing law), debating parliamentary procedure, talking about bipartisanship, leading meetings, etc. Entirely student-run.
Kids as Planners/Kids Consortium (just starting): service learning; leading a community service project (collecting notebooks, etc to send to the military to give to Afghanistan youth). Student led.
