United Interfaith Action of Southeastern Massachusetts
Mission: A coalition of 15 congregations in Fall River and New Bedford that are working to increase after- school programs, library hours, day care, lessen crime, and help maintain state funding for Adult Basic Education programs. Working to lower the high school drop-out rate, and working with hospitals and colleges on job training issues.
Formed a community partnership with the Community Connection Coalition/United Neighbors and BOLD Coalition to help resolve the transportation barriers that affect educational outcomes of youth in Fall River.
UIA campaigns have led to the hiring of 30 community policing officers in New Bedford and development of a street worker program to lessen teen violence in both Fall River and New Bedford.
This organization may offer interesting volunteer, internship, community engagement, and youth development opportunities for youth.
