East New York Farms

The mission of the East New York Farms Project is to organize youth and adults to address food justice in our community by promoting local sustainable agriculture and community-led economic development.  East New York Farms! is a project of the United Community Centers in partnership with local residents.[1] 

Compost
East NY Farms! expanded our system in reaction to the city's budget cuts for community composting programs. Having a good demonstration site for gardens could encourage others to make their own, and enable us to divert some of the GT compost, etc... to gardens in need. We have a new 5 bin system, 3 curing bins and 1 storage bin. We compost garden waste, cover crops and food scraps from vendors at our market and in the neighborhood. We are trying to establish, with the help of a master composter, a drop off system at our Farmer's Market.
