Founded in 1989, Grand Army Plaza is Greenmarket's flagship Brooklyn market, and the second largest market in the program, behind Union Square. Located at the northwest entrance to beautiful Prospect Park and just steps from the Brooklyn Public Library, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This community destination brings together a mix of shoppers from the nearby neighborhoods of Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and beyond. Runners, dog-walkers, families, singles and foodies all converge to buy from the huge array of farm fresh products, and to participate in the programming and cooking demonstrations that take place every Saturday all year long."[1]

Compost:
Grand Army Plaza accepts Organic Waste Drop Offs during regular market hours.  Grand Army Plaza  Greenmarket is part of a city wide composting initiative spearheaded by Grow NYC. The pilot project will run until December 31st, 2011.  Suggested Donation: $1/bag of compost

Accepted materials include:
-fruit and vegetable scraps
-non-greasy food scraps (rice, pasta, bread, cereal etc.)
-coffee grounds & filters, tea bags
-egg and nut shells, pits
-cut or dried flowers
-houseplants and potting soil

Please NO meat, chicken, fish, greasy food scraps, fat, oil, dairy, dog or cat waste, kitty litter, coal or charcoal, coconuts, diseased and/or insect-infested houseplants/soil or biodegradable/compostable plastics.  Please freeze or refrigerate scraps to reduce odors at home and at the Greenmarket. Payment
EBT/Food Stamps, Debit/Credit, and WIC & FMNP checks accepted.  Note that EBT/Debit/Credit are only accepted from 8am-3pm.
