Historic location where Malcolm X was assassinated on Sunday, February 21, 1965 while giving a speech. While the building facade has been preserved, the site is now the location of a Columbia University bio-research facility housing Biosafety Level (BSL) 1, 2, and 3 labs.

• BSL-1[1] work takes place with microorganisms that are not known to cause disease in healthy human humans)
• BSL-2[2] work takes place with agents that are often ones to which the workers have had exposure to in the community, often as children, and to which they have already experienced an immune response, i.e. Hepatitis B)
• BSL-3[3] takes place with infectious agents which may cause serious or potentially lethal diseases as a result of exposure by the inhalation route, i.e. Tuberculosis)
