Owl's Head
Bay Ridge
Sewage Odor WPCP "sewage treatment" SPDES "water discharge" uprose1, "Jorden Velazquez"
1) The aspect that I'm researching is the NYC water system contamination of Human Waster. People need to know that the Owls Head Water Pollution Control Plant gets over flooded and it's not able to clean everything out of our water. That's how it gets polluted.
"It happens anytime you get a hard rainfall," said Bob Connaught on, one of the plant’s engineers. "Sometimes all it takes is 20 minutes of rain, and you’ve got overflows across Brooklyn."
When the water overflows because of the rain, the system that cleans up the water, can not deal with every little thing that gets into it, so it becomes dirty water. That dirty water is what tastes bad in our parks, schools, and other public places. Also the water that gets dirty is our beach water.
2) My concept is connected to the NYC water system because Human waste is tied to pollution and contamination. These are the reasons we are having problems with our tap water and the reason people are getting sick.
3) The place in the NYC water system would busy represent the aspect that I am researching is the
Owls Head Water Pollution Control Plant and that is located in Brooklyn.
4) People should know that this is a big problem even though our water system is one of the cleanest. During the 1970s and 1980s, Congress distributed more than $60 billion to cities to make sure that what goes into toilets, industrial drains and street grates would not endanger human health. But even with those upgrades, many sewer systems are still frequently overwhelmed, according to a New York Times analysis of environmental data. As a result, sewage is spilling into waterways.
5) There are many things people can do about their waste. People can stop throwing things in the toilet that doesn’t need to be flushed, such as pills, condoms, etc. People can only flush the toilet when they do #2. Another thing people can do is, reuse, recycle, reduce and that will be a big help to prevent pollution and contamination.
6) The images I can include is the dirty things we see in the beach, the Owl Head sewage treatment plant, it’s location, some videos of the place or NYC water and maybe some audio that speaks about the water.
7) The links to other resources that people should explore is pollution, contamination, and more on human waste and how it affects our water.
