Site Description The site consists of a one-story building that is located on the north side of Forest Avenue to the south of the Forest Avenue Shoppers Town Shopping Center. The building is surrounded by sidewalks and parking lots, with the southern side of the building facing the intersection of Forest Avenue and Livermore Avenue. The building was occupied by a dry cleaning business called Paul Miller which provided dry cleaning services to the public until January 1995. This activity may have resulted in the release of tetrachloroethene (PCE) and breakdown compounds in the groundwater adjacent to the Paul Miller facility. A Boston Market restaurant currently occupies the building.
Site Environmental Assessment On-site groundwater is contaminated with PCE and its breakdown compounds. Low levels of contaminants have been observed in groundwater off-site. A Remedial Investigation is required to fully delineate the contamination.
Site Health Assessment Past site operations have contaminated groundwater with tetrachloroethene and other related volatile organic compounds. Exposure to groundwater is not expected because the area is served by public water. The area is completely paved and the dry cleaning operation is no longer active. Therefore, direct contact with site-related contaminants is not expected. The potential for vapor intrusion into nearby structures will be evaluated during the remedial investigation.
