Site Description
Dexter is an active chemical manufacturing facility located in an industrial/commercial district of Hunts Point, Bronx. There are no wetlands or woodlands in the vicinity of the site. The Bronx River is located 1000 ft. east of the site. The site has been a chemical manufacturing plant for over 40 years. Its products are used in processing of textiles, paint coatings and other industrial applications. Investigations revealed the presence of the following groundwater and soil contaminants: Volatile Organic compounds (VOCs), Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) and Priority Pollutant metals at concentrations above the NYSDEC recommended Soil Cleanup Objectives and Ground Water Standards/Criteria. The completion of installation of the remedial systems, i.e., soil vapor extraction/air sparging (SVE/AS) and system start up is scheduled for the summer of 2009.
Site Environmental Assessment
Investigations revealed the presence of the following contaminants in soil and groundwater: Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs), Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs), and Priority Pollutant Metals at concentrations above the NYSDEC recommended Soil Cleanup Objectives and Groundwater standards/Criteria.
Site Health Assessment
Public water is provided to the area, thereby preventing exposures to groundwater. Buildings and pavement cover the area, thereby preventing direct contact with waste material. Data do not indicate that soil gases are migrating into on-site building.
